Concordia Concert

The Concordia Concert Choir, conducted by Dr. Joy Berg, with accompanist Rev. Lorne Manweiler, is delighted - in collaboration with local choirs - to present a concert from Palestrina to Schubert to African music, speaking to the journey of faith through our earthly life. This mixed choir of 31 auditioned singers (sometimes singing a cappella, sometimes accompanied by piano, organ, flute or drum) will be at Messiah Lutheran Church (4810 – 50th Street) on Friday evening, March 4 at 7:30pm, with local guest choirs Camrose Camerata and Chorazz (conductors Joy-Anne Murphy and Tom Spila). There will be a free-will offering to defray costs of this tour.

Watoto Children's Choir

Watoto is an holistic care programme that was initiated as a response to the overwhelming number of orphaned children and vulnerable women in Uganda, whose lives have been ravaged by war and disease. The Watoto model involves physical care, medical intervention including HIV/AIDS treatment, education - technical and formal, trauma counselling and spiritual discipleship.

Watoto Children’s Choirs have travelled internationally since 1994 as advocates for the estimated 50 million children in Africa, orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war, poverty and disease. Accompanied by a team of adults, the choir presents Watoto’s vision and mission through their stories, music and dance. Watoto choirs act as ambassadors to raise awareness about the plight of the orphaned and vulnerable children of Africa.

The Watoto Children's Choir will be performing in Camrose on the 24th of February at Calvary Pentecostal Church at 7:30 pm. Come on out and experience the song, dance and music of the Watoto Children.

In addition to our study process we will host guest speakers who are engaged in various ways in the work of peacemaking. The series begins on September 20.

The Project to fill a DROP continer with clothing, blankets and medical equipment/supplies for the Iraqui refugees began on June 17th and the first container was shipped to Jordan on Sept 2. We are now working on the next container and church groups, schools, business, families and individuals are invited to participate in this outreach to show the love of Jesus Christ to those who have lost everything in the way of material possessions.

Financial donations are also needed to ship the container. Send donations to Missions Fest 14323 - 107A Ave, Edmonton, AB, T5N 1G2. Cheques should be made payable to Missions Fest.

Approximately 55% of marriages today end in divorce. Unresolved anger issues are one of the most significant underlying causes. The unfinished business around anger is destroying Christian homes. Anger is as much a destructive force in non-Christian homes as it is in Christian ones. In fact, in some cases anger can be more suppressed and oppressive in Christian homes.

You will learn to determine your anger level or another's anger to see if it's problematic. Tools are given from a Christian point of view that will help you gain self-control in situations where anger is destructive. The goal is to learn to take responsibility for our feelings and to express anger in a healthy way.

There are methods of behavioral change that then can be used to help us excape the damaging consequences of anger. Anger produces abusive situations and in this course methods to counter abusive anger are explored.

Programs will begin in February with a Men's Retreat, followed by three Confirmation Retreats in March, and the Lead the Way Youth Retreat in April.

In May, Kuriakos is looking at offering a Women's Retreat with a specific focus - getting ready for VBS. Leaders of congregational VBS programs can join together at Kuriakos for a weekend of learning in a fun and relaxing environment. Hear from experienced VBS leaders about programming, promotion, recruiting volunteers and more. Watch for more information about this new program in the spring - we hope this weekend will be an important way we at Kuriakos can support other ministry leaders. If you or someone in your congregation would like to help the retreat by leading a session or providing feedback, please let me know.

Praise & Worship Flagging

Praise & Worship Flagging will be offered on Saturday, November 1st from 7-9 pm at the CLBI cafeteria (4837 - 52a St).

If you are one that likes to move as you praise and worship God, come and experience Praise and Worship Flagging as a creative expression of worship!

Darlene West - Special Guest Instructor & Designer of "Westworks" Praise & Worship Flags will give instruction as a representative of the DCFC, Christian Dance Fellowship of Canada.

There will be a suggested offering of $10/person. For your convenience, Darlene will bring a variety of flags for purchase (cash only).

Journey Through the Bible

A Reading from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21

Dates: Thursday, November through Sunday, November 9, 2008.

Place: Camrose Church of God

Time: 60-70 hours straight (except for worship service times), beginning at 1830 hrs on Thursday, through 1930 hrs on Sunday.

Participants: Any and all willing participants from all Camrose and Area churches are invited to read the scripture out loud for 45 minute segments (eg. individuals, church leadership teams, youth groups, committees, Ministerial Association members, confirmation classes, Sunday School classes, etc.)

CLBI Meatballs for Missions
